Sobering Up Unit (S.U.U.) and the Mobile Assistance Patrol Service (M.A.P.S)
We deliver essential support services through our Sobering Up Unit (S.U.U.) and Mobile Assistance Patrol Service (M.A.P.S), promoting safety, wellbeing, and care across our community.
Operating nightly from 4:00 PM to 8:30 AM, our M.A.P.S team provides safe, reliable transport for people affected by intoxication — making sure they reach our S.U.U. or another safe place. At the S.U.U., we offer a structured, culturally safe environment with flexible beds, supervision, and a space to recover with dignity. Through our dedicated Meals Program, we also provide nutritious meals to those in need.
These services are a core part of the Coober Pedy Alcohol Strategy, helping to reduce the harms of substance misuse through prevention, intervention, and wraparound care. Guided by our committed local team, we’re responding to urgent challenges while working toward a safer, stronger, and healthier future for all of us.

Through compassion and cultural understanding, this team plays a vital role in supporting community safety, wellbeing, and recovery.
